Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Kijana Holmes (age 21) of Thibodaux and Davonte Mathews (age 24) of Baton Rouge after deputies found narcotics during a traffic stop Friday night. At around 7:45 p.m. on Friday, December 18, deputies observed a vehicle traveling 36 miles per hour in an area with a posted speed limit of 20 miles per hour and initiated a traffic stop. As the deputies approached the vehicle, they noticed an object was tossed from the passenger-side window. Deputies recovered the object and determined it to be a small bag of 20 suspected MDMA pills. Holmes was identified as the driver, while Mathews was identified as the passenger. A K-9 unit from Thibodaux Police Department responded to the scene to assist. After the K-9 alerted officers to the possible presence of narcotics, three (3) more MDMA pills were found on the driver’s side of the vehicle. Both were charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute MDMA, and Holmes was also charged with Speeding. Both were booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. Holmes was released on Monday, December 21 after posting $20,300 bond. Mathews remains in jail in lieu of $20,000 bond.
