Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will conduct a seat belt checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Wednesday, July 22. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, as well as other violations such as expired inspection tags. This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office’s year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
The last seat belt checkpoint was conducted on Thursday, July 16 along the northbound lane of LA Highway 308 in the Thibodaux area. Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C assisted at the checkpoint. A total of 639 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, and deputies reported violations: 3 no seat belt, 17 expired motor vehicle inspection stickers, 1 no inspection sticker, 2 expired registrations.
