Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a seat belt checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Wednesday, May 13. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, as well as other violations such as expired inspection tags. This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
The last seat belt checkpoint was conducted on Wednesday, May 6, along West 25th Street in Larose in response to a large number of speeding complaints. Of the 281 vehicles which passed through the checkpoint, deputies reported the following violations: 13 improper child restraints, 7 expired motor vehicle inspection stickers, 6 seat belt violations, 1 speeding violation, and 1 driver without a license.
