Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a seat belt checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Wednesday, March 18. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, as well as other violations such as expired inspection tags. This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
The last seat belt checkpoint was conducted on Wednesday, March 3, along the southbound lane of LA Highway 1 just north of the St. Charles Community. Of the 413 vehicles which passed through the checkpoint, deputies reported the following violations: 4 seat belt violations, 3 child restraint violations, 5 expired motor vehicle inspection stickers, 1 without a vehicle inspection sticker, 1 driving under suspension, 1 expired registration, 1 driving without insurance, and 1 smoking in a vehicle with a child present.
