Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a Seat Belt Checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Wednesday, December 10. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, as well as other violations such as expired inspection tags. This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
The last seat belt checkpoint was held on Thursday, December 4 on the southbound lane of LA Highway 308 near Raceland Upper Elementary School. A total of 507 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, and deputies reported the following violations: 4 seat belt violations, 2 improper child restraints, 13 expired motor vehicle inspections stickers, 2 drivers without a license, 2 drivers without insurance, 1 expired license plate, and 1 driving under suspension.
