Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a Highway Safety Checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Wednesday, August 6. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, expired inspection tags, expired/suspended driver's licenses, and other violations.
This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
A total of 258 vehicles passed through the last Highway Safety Checkpoint conducted along the northbound lanes of LA Highway 308 in the Lockport area on Wednesday, July 23. During the checkpoint, deputies reported the following violations:
- 2 expired vehicle inspection stickers
- 3 seat belt violations
- 2 improper child restraints
- 1 no driver's license
