Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a Highway Safety Checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Wednesday, July 9. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, expired inspection tags, expired/suspended driver's licenses, and other violations.
This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
A total of 292 vehicles passed through the last Highway Safety Checkpoint conducted along the northbound lane of LA Highway 1 in the Mathews area on Wednesday, July 2. Three seat belt violations and one expired motor vehicle inspection sticker were the only violations reported by deputies during the checkpoint.
