Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a Highway Safety Checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Wednesday, May 28. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, expired inspection tags, expired/suspended driver's licenses, and other violations.
This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
A total of 922 vehicles passed through the last Highway Safety Checkpoint conducted along the northbound lane of LA Highway 1 in the Mathews area on Wednesday, May 21. During the checkpoint, deputies reported the following violations:
- 7 expired motor vehicle inspection stickers
- 2 seat belt violations
- 1 no driver's license
- 1 no insurance
