Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a Highway Safety Checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Wednesday, May 7. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, expired inspection tags, expired/suspended driver's licenses, and other violations.
This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
A total of 162 vehicles passed through the last Highway Safety Checkpoint which occurred on the northbound lane of LA Highway 308 near Raceland Lower Elementary School on Wednesday, April 23. During that checkpoint, deputies reported the following violations:
- 3 expired motor vehicle inspection stickers
- 3 seat belt violations
- 1 expired vehicle registration
