Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a Highway Safety Checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Wednesday, April 23. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, expired inspection tags, expired/suspended driver's licenses, and other violations.
This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
A total of 263 vehicles passed through the last Highway Safety Checkpoint which occurred on the eastbound lane of LA Highway 182 just west of its intersection with LA Highway 1 in Raceland on Thursday, April 17. During that checkpoint, deputies reported the following violations:
- 1 expired motor vehicle inspection sticker
- 2 seat belt violations
- 3 improper child restraints
- 2 window tint violations
