Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a Highway Safety Checkpoint on Christmas day – Wednesday, December 25 – during the daylight hours in Lafourche Parish. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, expired inspection tags, expired/suspended driver's licenses, and other violations.
This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of Lafourche Parish safer for all motorists. Sheriff Webre asks for your patience and cooperation during the Christmas holiday.
A total of 268 vehicles passed through the last Highway Safety Checkpoint which occurred on Wednesday, December 18, in the eastbound lanes of LA Highway 182 in Raceland just below the U.S. Highway 90 overpass. During that checkpoint, deputies reported the following violations:
- 16 expired motor vehicle inspection stickers
9 seat belt violations
1 driving without a license
