Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre and Port Fourchon Harbor Police Chief Jon Callais announced several theft investigations eventually led to the arrest of three people after several run-ins with law enforcement in less than 24 hours. Rickey Cheramie (W/M, D.O.B. 03/08/76) and Lacie Cheramie (W/F, D.O.B. 05/17/82), both of Golden Meadow, and Scott Charpentier (W/M, D.O.B. 07/31/70) of Cut Off were all arrested as part of multiple investigations.
Just before 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, Harbor Police Officers responded to a theft complaint at a business in Port Fourchon wherein a cell phone and some food items were stolen by a female subject. Officers learned the subject’s name was Lacie Cheramie and that she was traveling in a black sport-utility vehicle. At around 10:30 a.m., officers located Cheramie fishing along LA Highway 1. Officers noticed the food items inside the vehicle, and later discovered the stolen cell phone as well. Lacie Cheramie was issued a criminal summons for Theft, and the stolen property was returned.
Thirty minutes later, the same Harbor Police Officers responded to another theft complaint wherein two ice chests, a lawnmower and a minnow trap were stolen from a Golden Meadow residence. The officers recalled seeing those items in Cheramie’s possession when she was cited earlier, and they sent out a bulletin for officers to be on the lookout for the black sport-utility vehicle.
At around 1:30 p.m., LPSO patrol deputies patrolling in the Golden Meadow area located the vehicle at the Cheramies’ residence, 132 East 137th Street in Galliano. Additional deputies and Harbor Police Officers, as well as nearby officers from the Golden Meadow Police Department and Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C, also responded to the scene to assist. Deputies eventually made contact with the subjects inside the home, and detained them. Harbor Police Officers conducted an investigation into the second theft complaint and issued a criminal summons for Theft to Rickey and Lacie Cheramie, as well as Scott Charpentier who was also on scene and allegedly helped steal the items.
While on scene, deputies discovered five Suboxone strips in Rickey Cheramie’s possession. He also voluntarily consented to a search of the residence in which deputies discovered seven (7) Alprazolam pills and drug paraphernalia. Deputies also learned Charpentier had three active warrants for Simple Battery stemming from an incident which had occurred May 15, 2013. Both were placed under arrest and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. Rickey Cheramie was booked with possession of suboxone and alprazolam, and he is currently being held in lieu of $20,000 bond as set by Judge Walter I. Lanier III. Charpentier was booked per the three warrants and is currently being held in lieu of $600 bond.
Less than 12 hours later, just before 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 1, deputies responded to a complaint of Christmas decorations being stolen from several residences along West 87th Street and West 88th Street in Cut Off in which the suspect was driving a black sport-utility vehicle. Deputies located the vehicle and identified the driver as Lacie Cheramie. Deputies also observed several Christmas decorations inside the vehicle, and Cheramie eventually admitted to stealing them. After learning Cheramie had been cited twice for theft on Friday, deputies placed her under arrest and transported her to the Detention Center. She was booked with Theft, and remains in lieu of $5,000 bond as set by Judge Lanier.
